It's time to Stand Up NY - with Dani Zoldan

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a standup comedy business but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dani Zoldan of Stand Up NY, based in New York.

What's your business and who are your customers?

We're a comedy club! We're in the business of making people laugh which is so important for so many reasons including your mental health. I am grateful that we're able to give a platform for comedians to do what they love.

Tell us about yourself

I've been an entrepreneur since I was 19 years old. I started a telecom business when I was 24 and sold the business in 2016 because I didn't feel fulfilled anymore. I love what I do because it's easy to find a purpose in making people laugh.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

While we were shut down for 13 months during the pandemic, we were able to produce over 500 shows in places like public parks, the subway and even a church!

Being able to provide much needed comic relief to New Yorkers and giving comics the stage time during such a challenging time made me very happy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's non-stop. There are no breaks - especially my business. I work in the club office during the day and get home at a normal hour (around 7pm) because I have a family but my phone is dinging all night because that's when we have shows.

Staying balanced and disconnecting has always been a difficult challenge.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1) Make sure you're business idea is good! Get your family's, friends and even people you don't know opinion but also make sure you go with your gut.

2) Have a great plan and strategy.

3) Execute, execute, execute.
