What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the owner of IF HAIR Inc. The nature of my business is a hair salon and professional academy. Our customers are clients and professional hairstylists.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a hairstylist for 35 years. Along the way, I have explored different avenues like salon owner, facilitator for workshop for Clairol Professional and Matrix Haircare, Master judge for hair competitor, provincial and national award-winning Hairstylist.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of my biggest accomplishments as a business owner is: I have created a community on Facebook where I have a LIVE show. The events are sometimes in French or English. The name of the show is In Between Hairstylists and Entre Coiffeur.
The events are on my business page IFHAIR Pro. It is usually done bi-weekly, and I have a guest from all over Canada who works in the industry. We talked about different topics related to our trade and the industry.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
At this moment, I realized that one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the labor shortage and qualified experienced hairstylist.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The three tips I would give someone who is thinking about owning a business is :
1- To really be clear on your vision and make sure your staff or team members know it well.
2- I would also recommend being patient and being persevering.
3- To share responsibilities and to let your team member excel at their position.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
My goal is to expand my professional academy and employ freelance hair artists to facilitate training for professional hairstylists.
