Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eyal Rosen, Founder, and CEO of iPrep, located in Tel Aviv, Israel.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

iPrep empowers students and job hunters to perform well on their entrance and screening exams. We use proven test preparation methodologies and training materials that enable our customers to outperform their fellow applicants and candidates. Our online training packages and test simulations prepare our customers for test day, giving them the best chance for success.

Tell us about yourself

Our background is in the job recruitment industry, and as a result, we have an in-depth familiarity with cognitive ability tests, personality tests, and reasoning tests that are so influential in the job market. We know just how fierce the competition is for every job, and we want to give our customers an advantage when they take the test. After completing our test prep courses, our customers arrive at test day feeling prepared, confident, and stress-free.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment happens just about every day when someone writes a review or sends us an email thanking us for giving them that little extra help they needed to get the job or be accepted into a program. The difference between being the candidate who got the job and the one who got the call saying they’ll keep their resume on file in case something comes up is razor thin. It’s incredibly satisfying to give our customers the edge they need to get a job that might just turn their life around.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

We work in a highly competitive market, which drives us to stay ahead. We stay atop testing trends so that we can provide the highest quality, more accurate test preparation services. Part of the challenge, though, is standing out and letting job seekers know that our service is truly unique. It’s not easy to penetrate through the mass of online content. To job seekers, most test prep companies are similar, even though there is a large difference between the quality of materials on the different sites.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. There were a lot of lessons we learned while building iPrep. The first is to focus on your customer’s greatest needs and pains. When you can solve those problems, customers continue to turn to you for advice.
  2. The second tip is to start with the highest quality you can and then work to improve continually. If you begin with subpar quality, you’ll alienate customers and generate poor reviews, which makes it all the more difficult to get ahead later as quality rises.
  3. Lastly, use modern technology and stay up-to-date. Keeping your tech stack current protects against inefficient operations, helps deliver a great user experience, and allows you to deliver a top-quality product to your customers.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The combination of high-quality products with an excellent platform is the right way to set up a successful business. When you add the right marketing tools into the mix, you start seeing positive financial results. Cutting corners may seem like a good idea at the moment, but it will make you work twice as hard down the road, and you’ll need twice as much time to meet your goals.
