Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sherri DeRhodes, Founder of Intentional Living Therapies, located in Columbus, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a holistic life coach, a certified clinical hypnotherapist, and a writer. My clients are people who want to make positive changes in their lives, and they seek my help to remove roadblocks like stress, indecision, fear, and poor self-esteem.

Tell us about yourself

I chose to get into this field at a time when I had been struggling with a lack of direction, depression, and poor self-esteem. The person who helped me was a holistic life coach who used talking, hypnosis, neurolinguistic programming, and energy healing. The transformation in my life was remarkable, and she encouraged me to follow a similar path.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are all periodically faced with significant changes, and I am adept at pivoting and reinventing myself professionally. For example, when the pandemic hit, and we were locked down, I could no longer meet face-to-face clients. I was able to re-tool my business model from brick-and-mortar to a virtual platform.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Uncertainty about those external things that affect the business is what's most difficult for me. It's fine to know that change is inevitable, but it's challenging when we don't know where it's going to come from.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It may sound corny or cliche, but the old adage to follow your passion holds true for me. If you love what you are doing, it never feels like work.
  2. Have a service mentality. What I can do for others enriches my life exponentially.
  3. Keep an eye on trends and stay on top of technology. If we cannot be responsive to new ideas and ways of reaching our audience, we don't stand a chance of going the distance.
