Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and professional development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mike Greene, Owner of IntegrityWorks Coaching, located in Carlisle, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My mission is to inspire people to grow both personally and professionally in order to offer their best selves to their families, workplace, and community. I provide one-on-one leadership, management, life, and sales coaching and offer similar personal and professional learning through customized training workshops. I also provide influence through email marketing and books.

Tell us about yourself

I've been selling all my life. I've also been a lifelong, passionate learner of personal and professional growth resources. My passion and strengths meet most at "selling" what I'm passionate about, which is why I left a high-paying sales position to start a company that fits my passion. I'm motivated by growing myself and others who are hungry and humble enough to engage.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The feedback I receive, especially from those I didn't know I was impacting. Writing my first book in the area of my passion and now, after my 3rd book, having sold over 60,000 copies in 5 languages. I'm working on books 4 and 5. That has significantly scaled my reach.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Starting and growing, failing and re-building. I left a strong sales position, wife at home - raising and educating our kids, running our house, finances, and admin for our business, and took the risk of starting my business in late 2008. We made 20% of the previous year's income and incurred a large debt in order to start. We worked through these financially challenging times - twice, in fact, and my wife stood by me, resolute, and our kids never knew. She's the top reason we've succeeded to this point.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with an impenetrable support team, especially at home.
  2. Patience. Persistence.
  3. DISCIPLINE in all things. Discipline = Freedom.
  4. COMMUNICATION. Do it well - you can solve most any relationship challenges with excellent communication, forgoing a lot of misery, misunderstanding, and bad results.
