Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Smith, Owner of Integrative Wellness Center, located in Indiana, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Integrative Wellness Center is a Certified Woman-Owned Business. We help clients on their journey to rediscovering well-being by gathering crucial pieces of their health puzzle in order to fully understand what is impacting their health. Our goal is to help clients restore energy and health while giving them the guidance needed to thrive. Our mission is to empower clients to live healthy, vibrant lives through targeted nutrition and lifestyle interventions.

Tell us about yourself

My grandfather was a surgeon who specialized in cancer. During holidays, patients would bring the turkey for Thanksgiving and tell how he had saved their family members' lives. He used to say he would rather help people prevent disease rather than try to help them overcome it after having it. Once I realized that it's possible to have such a profound impact on others' wellness, it became my mission to help people reverse disease and live their healthiest lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment in business is seeing my clients come back time and again and tell me that they feel amazing! I love knowing that I'm giving people hope and a better future than they ever imagined.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things I find in being a business owner is making sure I keep up with all the things. It's a huge commitment to run a business, market, hire, and keep all the balls in the air. I couldn't imagine having it any other way, but it can be tough to prioritize what's most important and to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do market research to ensure that people want what you're selling.
  2. Make sure you're extremely passionate about your new business.
  3. Make a commitment to yourself for excellent self-care. Most entrepreneurs put self-care on the back burner, and it can lead to poor health and burnout.
