Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in event planning but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maggie Rodriguez, founder of Inspired Events, located in Miami, FL.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Inspired Events - A Catering + Event Production Company. While our primary focus are weddings, we cater any type of event. We're a small, female operated business, dedicated to providing our clients a flawless, affordable delicious, and beautiful event experience.
Tell us about yourself
My background is in fundraising and public relations. In 2005, I started renting my home to couples looking for an alternative to host their wedding. From there, I went into the planning side and then catering. I'm motivated by the happy faces I see at each event when we reveal the room to the couple, or the comments I hear from the guests as they're enjoying the food :).
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say surviving the pandemic, as our industry was shut down and it was extremely challenging to stay afloat.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Being mindful of the staff's needs, sourcing the right vendors, and making sure our clients are happy.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
1. It takes a village- vendors, staff, and clients are all a part of the process.
2. Don't be afraid! There will be good days and bad days, the good will be great and the bad will teach you!
3. Know your value.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I also found 2 other brands: The Grazing Box by Inspired Events- we make amazing grazing boxes (charcuterie boards) + beautiful grazing tables. And, The Wedding Master Plan - a new digital platform that includes a video master class series for couples, a wedding planner on demand subscription service, and a wedding master plan designed to help couples with their planning in their location, on their budget, using their wedding day vision.
