Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adam Passarelli, Founder of inspiraHike, located in Lone Tree, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

inspiraHike is a one-of-a-kind mindful experience that takes participants on an outdoor sunset hike. Through the use of wireless headphones, we have perfectly choreographed music and guided inspiration to match the mood and pace of the journey. It is a completely live event hosted by a hike leader and usually features 5-20 participants. We ask everyone to stay silent for 75 minutes which creates a truly peaceful, calming, and transformational experience where you can spend time with your own personal thoughts but feel a part of something bigger as you do it with a group. The trail is rated beginner to intermediate, so a basic level of physical activity is needed. This truly unique experience is great for tourists and locals alike who are looking for a mindful adventure in nature that is peaceful, relaxing, and helps their overall well-being.

Tell us about yourself

I've spent the majority of my professional career in the health and wellness space and have always had a passion for helping people and serving others. I also love all things outdoors and being out in nature. So while on a hike a few years back over the 4th of July, I had this idea come to me about how you could put together a program using music, inspiration, and nature that could really help people disconnect from the world and relax for a bit. So we followed that lead, and we have inspiraHike today! Every day, I get excited about growing a business that people are genuinely excited and thankful for. The best part is talking with people after each experience about what it meant to them.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm proud that our experience is helping people's mental and physical health in the communities we operate in. So much good can happen if we can get more people outdoors and connect with the thoughts that matter most to people. So I'm very proud that we're truly helping people and helping to create this brand new category that can do so much good for the world.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

You have to wear ALL the hats! Everyone has strengths and weaknesses coming into launching a business, but you still need to find ways to execute all aspects, even if a certain realm isn't your strong suit. So you start to rely on your network and friends for help and perspective!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Rely on your network first for trial, perspective, and guidance! For your business to be successful, you need mavens who will talk about your business to others, and the best place to "light that fire" is within your own current network.
  2. Be patient when launching your website and social media advertising. It seemed like everything took longer than it should have during the first 1-2 months. So budget enough time for when you truly "open," as there are a number of things out of your control that might slow you down.
  3. Trial and error! Try several different marketing and pricing strategies to see what sticks. Early on, don't be afraid to be bold, as you can always backtrack a bit if need be. But we've learned so much from trial and error that it will really help us in the long run!
