Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sandy Abell, President of Inside Jobs Coaching Company, located in Medford, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Inside Jobs Coaching Company is a solopreneurship focused on helping business owners and individuals define and achieve their goals. Whether you have business challenges or life changes, we partner with and support you as you decide how to proceed and then move ahead.

Tell us about yourself

I've been a licensed counselor for many years and realized that the clients I most enjoyed working with are the ones who wanted to grow and make changes in their business or personal lives. That is what coaching is, so I went back to school, got a coaching accreditation, and have been doing this for over ten years. The joy I find in seeing my clients succeed is why I do what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is all of my clients who have grown and achieved their goals through our work together. I'm also proud of my books, Feeling Good About You and Moving Up to Management for New Supervisors, and of the podcast I'm currently doing called Your Personal Power Pod, which is all about supporting and empowering people to be their best selves.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is marketing. When I do my job right, I work myself out of a job, so I always have to find new ways to market and find new clients.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You might be really good at what you do, but make sure you also understand what is involved in the business side of what you do.
  2. Get clear on what you don't know and surround yourself with coaches, mentors, and employees who know how to do those things.
  3. Hang in there and be positive, even when the going gets tough.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Owning and running your own business can be incredibly satisfying and is worth the effort it takes to get it going.
