Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Taylor Morrison, founder of Inner Workout, located in Chicago, IL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Inner Workout helps overachievers take care and redefine success so that they can lead fulfilling lives where they feel both grounded and expansive. We offer a digital community, virtual and in-person events, and one-on-one coaching.
Tell us about yourself
I started Inner Workout because I'm not good at self-care. I was burned out and looking to make a change, but the mainstream approach to self-care wasn't cutting it. I started working with the definition of self-care that we use today: listening within and responding in the most loving way possible. And it changed everything for me. I started Inner Workout to help people like me feel cared for in their everyday lives.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is still in progress, but it's my book, also called Inner Workout. It's coming out in March 2023, and it's the guide I wish I had when I was initially reframing my relationship with self-care.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is making sure that you have a life outside of your business. I love what I do, which can make it hard to step away. But I know that being a workaholic doesn't serve anyone.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get really clear on your definition of success. If you don't define it for yourself, you'll end up chasing someone else's version of success and wondering why you don't feel fulfilled.
- Be scrappy. You need less than you think to start a business. Read The Minimalist Entrepreneur or Company of One for inspiration.
- Discover your Zone of Genius. What are you best at? What magic are you bringing to the business? Knowing the answer to those questions will help you at every stage of business.
