Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsay Zogheb, owner of Inner Purpose, LLC, located in Collingswood, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Inner Purpose, LLC, a group private practice that offers individual, couples, and family counseling to children, adolescents, and adults. We strive to provide an open and non-judgmental space for healing as we take a trauma-informed approach to therapy.

Tell us about yourself

Ever since I knew I wanted to be a counselor (around the age of 10), I knew I wanted to have my own private practice. I graduated with my Bachelor's in Psychology in 2yrs and right away went on to get my Master's. From there, I had to start accruing my clinical hours in order to receive my full license in order to be able to open up my own practice. As soon as I obtained my full license, I filed for my LLC, left my job, started marketing myself, and the rest is history. I made sure to persevere through the tougher times by keeping my eye on the end goal, which meant independence and financial freedom. The responsibility I have to my clients, community, and staff is what motivates me every single day. As humbly as I can say, I know I'm making a difference, and helping people feel better is what gets me through even the toughest of days.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to be able to offer quality counseling to my community because I trust and value my team and that they are doing amazing work. By growing my practice to include five clinicians, we are able to help so many more people than I was able to help on my own.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is finding work/life balance. Previously, as an employee of another company, there would be the typical work days/hours, but as a business owner, it's hard not to feel 24/7. But it's still important to find those boundaries for your own sanity and for the benefit of your business. You can't pour from an empty cup, so make sure to take him for yourself because, at the end of the day, those emails will be there tomorrow, and you'll get to them.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you want to start a business, talk about it, learn about it, and then go do it. We often get held down by self-doubt, especially when starting something new. But having the mind shift of 'Even if I don't know the answer, I'll figure it out.' You'll learn along the way and make mistakes, but please give yourself the opportunity to do so but going for what you want & deserve.
  2. Marketing is the key to the success of your business. Whether that is by word of mouth by working it into conversations at the grocery store, posting on social media, networking, or handing out business cards - do it all. Always try to think of new and creative ways to get yourself out there!
  3. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Running a business is hard and stressful. You're not going to know everything, and that's okay. The people in your life are there to help, along with other professionals. Scouring the internet and Facebook groups are also valuable!
