Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ioana Todoran, Owner of Inner Harmony Acupuncture, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is called "Inner Harmony Acupuncture." My clients are everyone who is dealing with a health issue or just wants to improve their health and maintain wellbeing. I work with individuals of any age, race, or gender.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in the health field ever since I graduated college. I graduated with a pharmacy degree and worked as a pharmacist in retail pharmacies, drug warehouses, and drug quality control. I have always had an interest in complementary medicine, and while being a pharmacist, I took pharmacy-related homeopathy classes. After dealing with some health issues which could not be treated or explained by western medicine.

I looked for answers in the alternative medicine world, and I discovered that in order to heal, you need to go to the root cause of the symptoms instead of trying to suppress them as well as treat the body, mind, and spirit as a whole. I was so amazed by what I was learning that I felt an intense desire to share this way of healing with other people. I soon discovered an acupuncture school that was teaching a curriculum based on these principles, and I embarked on a healing journey for myself and to help others.

What motivates me in what I do: it is amazing to work with people, listen to their unique stories, and try to find individualized solutions for their health issues. It is very rewarding to see them regain their health and joy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting a practice in my early forties as a English-second language speaker, knowing nothing about business, was very challenging.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There were many challenging things, from finding the right space to advertising to building a clientele, but I can't think of one being particularly the hardest, as each challenge provokes you to become more creative.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be confident.
  2. Work with joy.
  3. If what you do is your passion, you will succeed.
