Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sauda Welch, Founder of Inner G Counseling LLC, located in Catonsville, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Inner G Wellness. I provide holistic wellness and mental health services including coaching and counseling to women of color.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Sauda Welch, and my business is an extension of me. I believe my natural enthusiasm for seeing those around me flourish led me to a career in creating a safe space for others to do just that. I have always been passionate about emotional and spiritual health, having gone through a dark time myself. Through my journey, I learned that the meaning I placed on events in my life significantly shifted my perspective and allowed me to find fuel to go on where there was none. What allowed me to do this was having the space and time to sort out my thoughts, and this led me to counseling and coaching. I named my business Inner G to remind my clients that although there is little that we control in the way of life experiences, where we direct our focus and energy will either grow or diminish our own Inner Greatness/Goddess/Gangsta.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was when I got my first referral client. She came highly recommended by a former client, and we did so much great work together! That experience showed me that if I give my gifts authentically, those who need them will come.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about owning a business is you wear all the hats - accounting, admin, marketing, sales, and customer service... you name it. You need to be organized, consistent, and disciplined to be able to manage it all. I think one place where people may go wrong is forgetting that although you own your business, you are not alone. Reaching out to others and learning ways to manage it all is essential for success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always be a student because there is always something to learn.
  2. Have faith in yourself and keep a plan.
  3. Have fun, and never stray from why you started because it's free fuel.
