Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rachel Babor, Founder of Inner Compass Yoga, located in Elmira, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach in-person and virtual yoga classes to a wide range of people aged 18-70.

Tell us about yourself

For over a decade, I performed professionally in live theatre, but I knew when I started a family that the lifestyle wouldn't allow me to see my children much. So I followed another passion and got my yoga teacher training. We moved to a home that has an addition out the back which allows me to run an intimate studio. I love being in control of every element, from pricing to the atmosphere to promo to class types. I am motivated by what I offer because I know how much yoga benefits my life, and I want others to experience that too.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Loving my work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Holding boundaries around work hours. Being a one-woman show means wearing many hats and working hard behind the scenes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself.
  2. Be authentic - people can feel it.
  3. Start before you're ready (or you never will).
