Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shawn Jones, CEO of iNETrepreneur Network, located in Mesa, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our clients are entrepreneurs, business owners, and thought leaders. We have a global community that provides platforms for people to speak on stage, become published authors, and be featured in magazines and radio. In addition, we also offer weekly networking meetings and a variety of events, including social, masterminds, education, and conferences.

Tell us about yourself

I started my first company when I was 8 years old, washing neighbors' cars. At 13, I assisted Realtors in their offices, providing administrative services. By 14, my mom purchased a failing cleaning service company, where I began my true entrepreneurship journey. Working alongside my mom, Lynda, the two of us grew the company to be the largest residential and commercial cleaning company in Las Vegas. Since then, I have opened several start-up companies in the service and career recruiting industries. I am motivated to help others. Entrepreneurs come to me because of my experience with start-ups and extensive experience building strategies to attract clients, retain customers, and build market brands. They turn to me for advice, and I love watching them take it and make it their own.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was the 1st time I walked on stage as a Keynote Speaker, and the room went silent. There were more than 300 people in the room, and it was at this moment I realized I was more than just my company. I was a person who others wanted to listen to because I earned my stripes.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Never letting anyone down. As a business owner, I have to always be 5 steps ahead of others, ready to launch the next project, stay innovative, and think outside the box to stand out. Being a business owner means making difficult decisions, addressing things that make you feel uncomfortable, and admitting when to release.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you are not an action-taker, learn to be and learn quickly. The more you take action, the more others will notice. The more they notice, the more they want to be part of your inner circle.
  2. Be honest and direct. If something isn't for you, say so instead of ghosting. It takes more energy and time for you and them.
  3. Opportunities are all around, yet not all opportunities are the right ones. Be selective with the opportunities you select and ask yourself.
    1. Is this worth my time?
    2. Will it be profitable for me?
    3. What is my desired goal?
    4. How can I leverage the opportunity?
