Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heidi Drauschak, Co-Founder of In Search of Bliss, located in Chester Springs, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We host a travel and lifestyle blog that discusses various life topics and takes people along on our journey across the United States!

Tell us about yourself

We're a full-time RV couple that has been on the road with our two dogs and cat for one and a half years. We work remotely, so we decided to sell our house, take things to the road in the middle of the pandemic, and just keep driving! We've explored a lot of the country and wanted to share our journeys - physical and otherwise! We try to share practical travel guides and interesting musings as we explore this lifestyle.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Starting the business in the first place! It's always scary starting something new, so it's exciting when you get enough momentum actually to put it into motion.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Understanding what your customers want vs. what you want to offer them. Sometimes you have such a strong feeling about what you should be offering, but the market is pushing you in a different direction. It takes a wise businessperson to listen to the market and follow the energy flowing into their business instead of trying to (always) do it your own way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start small! Don't quit your job or invest your savings until you've run a pilot. Find the cheapest and easiest way to test your idea and do it in your free time.
  2. Be ready to pivot! Sometimes your original idea was necessary to start you on your entrepreneurial journey, but it may not be the best idea. Be ready to take feedback and pivot to where the market pushes you - you may find something even better!
  3. Have fun and remember why you're doing it in the first place! Being a business owner can be stressful, and a lot of people get lost in the day-to-day. Don't forget why you wanted to start your business in the first place, and make sure that what you're doing is still achieving that!
