What's your business, and who are your customers?
IMREIKINOW is a Reiki energy healing business in Los Angeles, California, where people from all levels of society at various stages in their life go for spiritual and/or healing assistance. Some people also come to IMREIKINOW to be certified as Reiki healers.
Tell us about yourself
I first began this business after becoming ill with Rheumatic Fever. I was looking for ways to heal myself and stop taking painful shots full of chemicals to “get by” for only a week out of the month. I meditated and prayed, and the phrase, “You need to learn Reiki,” came to me. I researched it, signed up for certification, and began using it to heal myself while in treatment. Eventually, I didn’t need treatment anymore because Reiki assisted in the recovery process. Reiki not only helped me physically but also changed my perspective on life and how to relate to this world. It helped to remove all the traumas that were hidden inside. That’s when I decided to start my own business to help others change their life for the better with Reiki.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
There isn’t a biggest accomplishment per se. There are great ones that are helping me accomplish my goal to assist others in healing and becoming spiritually elevated while still functioning well within this systemic world. For instance, I wrote a Reiki handbook, “Reiki Vibrations with 33 Meditations and Affirmations,” to help healers and those interested in healing learn about the less spoken experiences in sessions and trainings with Reiki. My book gives practical information on how to conduct sessions with visualizations and lists affirmations to use. All of which were spiritually guided. It is available online everywhere and can be requested in libraries. I also am a contributing writer for Reiki Rays, a global organization for Reiki healers. So, with each published article, I help healers maneuver in this spiritually guided healing world while keeping clean and strong roots. At the same time, I am educating others about Reiki and how it truly works within your life. I am an expert teacher on Insight Timer, the leading meditation app. I have Reiki meditations and courses designed to send Reiki energy for healing and elevation to those who listen or enroll. I work with people and animals and even clear negative energy from businesses. Finally, I am in the process of creating a Reiki House in Yucca Valley where people can go and request personal healing services such as Reiki, meditation, sound healing, or simply to relax in nature.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The fact that I am a minority female sole proprietor and sometimes people don’t take me seriously in business or think they can take advantage. But, I also have a Juris Doctorate degree, so I understand law and business well. It shocks those with less than stellar motives when I politely explain why we will do things as I want them done. It’s my business, and positive energy and good deeds are what I’m about. I allow Reiki to remove the negativity in whatever way needed to accomplish the Universal goal.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do what makes you happy and learn how to run your business.
- Remember to take things slow and advance methodically.
- Save your start-up money and look for grants, not loans, whenever possible.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
If you really want to own your own, be ready to invest in yourself and sacrifice your lifestyle. I put all my excess money into my business and limited my vacation time and travel. I work 24/7 mentally, and I’m always looking for ways to make IMREIKINOW a household name for healing, certification, and meditation. Be creative and talk less, do more. Enjoy your life.
