Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Mark Samuel, Founder and CEO of IMPAQ Corp., located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

IMPAQ provides services to C-Level executives in mid- to large-sized organization that transforms their business and culture in rapid time producing measurable results associated with breakthrough business outcomes, collective execution, and culture. Organizations benefit from our services for 3 to 10 years beyond our initial implementation.

Tell us about yourself

I got into this business to make a meaningful difference using the methodologies I learned from other experts. When I discovered that common methodologies didn't achieve desired results or the results weren't sustainable, I became a "scientist" to develop best practices for achieving rapid transformation that was sustainable and measurable. The key was raising the consciousness of leaders, gaining alignment on what a new paradigm of success would look like, and driving those outcomes through collective execution and accountable agreements that eliminate silo thinking and behavior that results in the blame game.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is creating a company where clients achieve results that exceed their expectations at a reasonable cost while keeping my employees gainfully employed during multiple recessions that put our business at risk.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Surviving downturns in the marketplace and being able to pivot during times like COVID that disrupted the very way we conducted our business and threatened our existence.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be clear about the purpose of going into business - what service or product will you offer, and how will that benefit your desired customers?
  2. Are you as committed to the marketing, sales, and financial management of your business as much as you are to the service or product you are offering?
  3. Do you have a team that can advise you and support you in building and growing your business since no one has all the answers?

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Regardless of your immediate success, you need to reinvent yourself and your business to adapt to the changing landscape of technology, societal changes, emerging challenges, and new opportunities - adaptability while staying true to your purpose is the key to success.
