Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Imogen Rose, Owner of Imogen Rose Fitness, located in Manchester, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own an online fitness coaching business. I coach women worldwide to get fit & strong. A big proportion of my clients have conditions like Endometriosis and PCOS, and this is what I specialise in. I strive to help women with hormonal-related conditions to better their health, improve their fitness and decrease the number of pain days they have.

Tell us about yourself

I’ve had my business for the past three years. I first started working as an online fitness coach in 2019 after I qualified as a Personal Trainer. I have endometriosis myself - which is a chronic inflammatory condition that causes tissue similar to the lining of the womb to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

I’ve had three surgeries so far, and although surgery doesn’t cure it, it can dramatically help. Now I’m on a holistic health journey, and I’ve managed to improve my symptoms through nutrition, exercise, and acupuncture. I now help my own clients better their health despite their barriers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say being able to coach women across the globe. The internet has allowed us to connect globally, which I love. I have clients in South Africa, Canada, the United States, Denmark, the UK, Australia, + so many more places! Watching the women I work with grow in confidence week by week is very rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not being able to take consistent days off. Being a business owner is demanding, especially in the beginning, but I love it and wouldn’t change it for the world! I’m now managing to branch out and have my own sales assistant who manages the sales process, thankfully, which gives me more time to coach clients and give them the best possible experience.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Your business has to be something you are passionate about! Otherwise, you’ll easily fall out of love with it. I love the saying ‘Find a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life’ from Mark Twain. It’s very true; if you love your career, you’ll progress easily because you’ll want to live and breathe your work. Doing something rewarding helps too!
  2. Never stop learning about your business subject; drop the ego because that’s when you will feel like you’ve learnt it all. There is too much to learn; never feel like you know it all!
  3. Try and get a mentor. So many people at the top have mentors. They just don’t tell you that! Especially if you don’t have any business experience.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Even if you don’t feel like you have a place as an entrepreneur - you do! There is a place for everyone as a business owner. You just need to find your niche. Good luck!
