What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own ILISSA & Co, a business strategy and marketing services agency. We help small business owners go from doing all the things to being the next big thing. We have an incredible all-female team that offers business strategy, social media marketing services, virtual assistant services, photography, branding, and more!
Tell us about yourself
I am unique. I am able to be a creative person and the nitty-gritty strategy person. I pull out those hidden nuances that people hide about themselves and turn that into your secret sauce for your business. Seeing someone truly bloom into their full, authentic self is the real magic that I live for each day.
As a Girl from the Gas Station™ myself, I had to learn everything on my own to start my first business. I fought for my place here, and it truly is my passion to show others how to do it, too.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Giving back to others, whether it's on a small scale through local charities or starting our Girl from the Gas Station™ initiative this year to be able to provide our services & workshops to those who might otherwise not be able to afford them.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
You are the boss... it's a good thing and a terrifying thing. You have to stay motivated every day and keep that end goal in sight, even when you're stuck in the weeds for a bit.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't be afraid to take those big, brave steps. Sometimes you just have to jump and know you'll find your way.
- Don't be afraid to pivot. Things rarely turn out how you initially thought they were going to go.
- Trust yourself. As long as you're doing your best, that's the best you can do. No regrets.
