Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Iliana Sanchez, Founder of Iliana Fitness, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help healthy-minded professional women that want to be the best version of themselves and are willing to get out of their comfort zone with my online fitness group called Bodyfit and personal fitness coaching.

Tell us about yourself

I started as a fitness group enthusiast at the age of 16. I became a natural in fitness, and people around me kindly and thankfully pushed me to get certified and start teaching. Even though I never thought I would do that later in life, 30 years later, I am more engaged than ever in learning and experiencing fitness broadly, such as strength, cardio, mobility, and flexibility. This was a turning point in seeing my body and one of my clients getting stronger and healthier. Making my clients and myself healthier with the right mindset, better nutrition information, and proper training is what motivates me and keeps me excited every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having a group of loyal, raving clients/fans that, season after season, continue asking for more of my services and keep inviting their friends.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it is hard to take risks, and that has been the hardest of being the owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do it because you love it and not because it is in or for the money.
  2. Understand your customers.
  3. Be humble and curious about all you don't know about fitness and health, and keep learning.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

My latest project is in the developing phase. An online group coaching to help women work out according to their cycle and get in great shape. I will present it on a live conference I am invited to give in November at a sports center.
