What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a psychologist, writer, and presenter, teaching professionals around the world to work with distressed couples and depressed or traumatized individuals. I also do ongoing research into effective interventions in therapy. My books and programs for the public on bonding and relationships are well respected and used by many institutions.
Tell us about yourself
The knowledge that I can make a difference to people - to their health and happiness - a good relationship changes everything in someone's life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My book, Hold me Tight, has sold over a million copies, and I was awarded the Order of Canada by the Canadian Government for my contribution to society.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Dealing with disagreements and conflict among my large team teaching in different countries and cultures. Knowing how best to lead and give direction.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Know what you want - your main goals and stick to it - keep to the mission. Build a cohesive, dedicated team. Be flexible as to HOW best to reach your goals.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I don't even think of my work as a business per se - it's a calling.
