What's your business, and who are your customers?
Ice Cream Social is a fun and colorful neighborhood scoop shop in White Plains, NY. Our community consists of ice cream lovers from the very young to the very old.
Tell us about yourself
We, Erin and Pam, started the business because we wanted to create the kind of community that we'd like to live in. We both have young children and started this business so they'd have a fun place to come to with their friends. Our motivation relies on the expectations of our community.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Opening the business! There are many hurdles to cross when opening a brick-and-mortar store. We are proud that our community looks to us as a must-try place in such a short amount of time.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Staffing is difficult. Our business is staffed by young people who go to school, have other jobs, etc., so their schedules are constantly changing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Ask questions! You certainly don't know all of the rules, so call anyone and everyone you can think of to pick their brains.
- Have more money than you think you'll need. You will need it!
- Promote early. There's nothing like generating a little buzz.
