What's your business, and who are your customers?
iatrixAir is a mission-critical Health-Tech startup. We use machine learning to stop airborne pathogens and biothreats in commercial and public buildings in near real-time with fast detection, fast destruction, and fast information. We sell to building operators and owners through contractors. Our first market is the 25M public and commercial restrooms in the US.
Tell us about yourself
My background and experience is mostly in photonics or light source technologies that create many useful products like your mobile phone, notebook, projection, TV, AR/VR displays, plant lights, light therapy, and now sensors in wearables. Wavelengths of light have a big impact on our everyday lives and are proven to destroy viruses, bacteria, and mold/fungi. So with CV-19, we started to research what is the best way to stop airborne pathogens, which is a 1000-year-old unsolved problem. These pathogens are a huge danger to our livelihood but also a great opportunity to use technology to solve or minimize this problem.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As part of the ViewSonic team, we grew revenue from $50M to $1.4B. It was not easy and, at times, stressful since the business grew by leaps and bounds each year, challenging everyone involved.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Maybe today, it is hiring and motivating the team; however, raising or insuring that there is cash to run and grow the business is right up there as hard to do.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Plan to work hard, be persistent as there will be turbulence, and keep it simple - do not defocus.
