Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food & beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Golby, Founder of I PIE NY, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I make pies, popcorn, cookies, and all things delicious. My customers are people who love pies, popcorn, cookies, and all things delicious.

Tell us about yourself

As a child, I grew up in the kitchen. My mother, at one point, was a chef in the ā€˜70s in a small vegetarian restaurant in the west village, and my dad used to take me to pick wild berries in the hills of upstate NY. I thought all children sat in big pots in the kitchen while their mother cooked. It was something we did as a family, and I always made pies for friends for their thanksgiving dinners, and one day I decided to try and sell my pie, and people came back for more I love it when people enjoy the food that I make.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Right now, my biggest accomplishment is getting started.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Getting started is hard. Iā€™m not a business person, so really understanding how to run a business is just hard.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Speak to a professional.
  2. Know your customer base.
  3. Ask for help when needed.
