Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle Ellington, Owner of I Am What I Am Images, located in Belcamp, MD, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a photography business, and my customers are women 21 and older.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business the year I went thru breast cancer. I did this because I wanted to give women the opportunity to love themselves no matter what they are going through and to encourage them that they are beautiful inside and out.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is getting my name out there. To let women know that I am just like them and they can trust me to bring them a wonderful photo that will last forever.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about being a business owner is always believing in yourself. Knowing that you can do it and make a difference. You are the only one who writes your story, so make sure that the story is what you want and not what others think.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If you make mistakes, it is okay. Learn from them and correct them; you are human.
- Make sure you pay yourself. You are the CEO, and you need a check too.
- Learn to prioritize your schedule. You may have a lot of tasks that need to get done, and it is okay to do one thing at a time.
