It's Time to Live Your Best Life - I Am My Best Coaching

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nyle Beck, Founder of I Am My Best Coaching Inc., located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work both locally and globally online, coaching, educating, consulting, and supporting people from all walks of life in rising up and stepping into their authenticity and their power with clarity and confidence - in their personal and professional lives. My business has a holistic approach and is focused on helping people optimize their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health through a variety of methods, practices, and tools. I work collaboratively with clients to co-create action plans and accountability measures in a safe, non-judgmental, and encouraging setting and style.

My main clients are individuals, families, or workplace teams seeking to improve their skills and practices in conflict resolution, relationships, emotional intelligence, assertiveness & boundaries, mindfulness, and stress reduction. I LOVE these areas and have accumulated a VAST toolkit that I am passionate about sharing with people.

Tell us about yourself

I began my professional coaching and training journey over 25 years ago as a Personal Fitness Trainer, Instructor, Nutrition Coach, and Adult Educator. I coached hundreds of clients to better health and managed thousands of courses, and through doing this kind of work in service of others with such genuine joy and passion for a number of years, I naturally decided to dedicate my career to lifelong learning and to help people empower themselves.

My practice expanded from primarily physical wellness into emotional wellness and Emotional Intelligence coaching after seeing how its applications resulted in transformational healing, increased focus and productivity, and positive holistic health benefits for myself, my relationships, and my clients. The culmination of my journey led me to form I Am My Best Coaching Inc. as a way to support others in living their best lives.

I am EXTREMELY motivated by the potential in us all and have an unquenchable thirst for learning, growth, and expansion in life. As a result, I am a bit obsessed with the Human Potential. I believe there is so much that is untapped in us all and that the meaning of life is to keep going and keep growing for as long as we live. I just can't stop. And the tools I've learned that have personally helped me and that have worked for SO MANY OTHERS are things that I wish to share with everyone to help them step up and be their best every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To me, achievements aren't always about quantifiable outcomes. I could reflect on the successful businesses I've grown from the ground up, financial goals I've achieved, levels of productivity, or financial goalposts I've exceeded, but those don't even come close to being in my top 5 list of greatest accomplishments. My greatest accomplishment was probably being able to touch and expand the hearts and lives of so many people in my coaching career, which began in 1995 and is still going strong today.

My greatest accomplishment is in staying true to my altruistic view of what I am here to do in this life – to work with others in stepping into their power, returning to their authentic selves, and shining their brightest. The number of clients, students, associates, friends, communities, networks, business owners, and individuals from all over the world that I have been able to work with to co-create critical shifts in their inner world that ultimately sparked positive change for themselves and others in their lives has been the most gratifying, beautiful, heart-expanding achievement I can think of.

Then, upon the shutdown in 2020, I dedicated much of my practice to remote pro-bono coaching for hundreds of people of all ages who were experiencing anxiety, loss, grief, domestic disharmony, workplace changes, and other life challenges. I've managed to reach a Twitter following exceeding 60,000 so far, which has greatly extended my reach to people around the globe so that I could support people looking for help or guidance, and share ways for people to work on their emotional and relationship issues, practice emotional intelligence skills and work on their respective goals, especially during such a challenging timeline as the pandemic.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are three equally challenging issues that I deal with as a business owner. First is the time! As an entrepreneur, there are not enough hours in the day to do everything, particularly on the administrative side of my business, so this is an ongoing challenge that I navigate by outsourcing certain aspects of what I do and seeking help from other skilled professionals. The second challenge is networking. It can be isolating at times to be working in and on my business without employees.

There are loads of networking opportunities, but then the first issue about time seems to make it all the more difficult. The third difficulty is social media and being what some might call a "personal brand." I deeply value authenticity, but I also value all humans on this planet for the uniqueness that each person brings. Therein lies the challenge - how does one speak to all of humanity!? Well, I try. And wow, do I ever need help with this, as Instagram is not my wheelhouse at all, yet I keep plugging away and posting what feels authentic to me, with the help of a few nudges here and there from others I've hired at times encouraging me to promote myself and my services more (despite having a deep discomfort in marketing my business online - I love what I do, but I'm pretty old school and not too savvy on social media - word of mouth worked for me for so many years!).😊

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a basic business plan, complete with your mission, vision, services/products/deliverables, process, logistics, pricing, timelines, billable and non-billable workflow, and marketing/advertising BEFORE getting into it too deeply.
  2. Be a systems-thinker. Getting everything in our business into well-run systems helps us be organized. This is key for when we start growing or during times of change.
  3. Adjust your attitude and be authentic: "Do what you love and love what you do." Make your business your passion project; Otherwise, what's the point? Energy is so precious, and we can either feed our own and others' energy through our work (by embracing and truly loving it and feeling aligned by doing it) or be depleted by it (i.e., by an attitude of feeling obligated to do it). And the stuff you don't love that is necessary to do in order to run your business, remember that it feeds your passion project, so learn to embrace it!
