Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Stephanie Robbins, Co-Founder of Hyht Bites, located in San Ramon, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Most healthy kids' snacks are not what kids ask to eat. So, we created kid's snacks that are colorful, crunchy, and fun to eat while also being healthy. To make Moon Fruit, we blend fruits into a smoothie and then freeze-dry them for a crunchy, portable snack that can be enjoyed anywhere, and kids love them.

Tell us about yourself

We are two moms that were tired of kids' snacks being marketed as healthy and yet were full of sugar and other ingredients that were not healthy. When we bought our children healthy snacks, the kids didn't like them. We knew we needed to make a kid's snack that would be both healthy and fun to eat. We're motivated by creating snacks that kids can love and remain healthy. By replacing sugary treats just a few times per week, children can be healthier, and we can help fight childhood obesity, diabetes, and other lifestyle diseases.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The innovation it has taken to create and produce Moon Fruit has been a huge accomplishment. We produce Moon Fruit because no other manufacturers do all of the processes we need for contracting. We have invented proprietary processes and developed new and efficient ways to make Moon Fruit.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Balancing growth with capacity is always a challenge. We need more business to make the money necessary to keep our business afloat. We also need funds for investing in ingredients, packaging, and personnel to produce more products, along with advertising and marketing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, be sure you have the funds to support yourself and your business. This is a long road and very costly. Second, bring in smart and reliable people to work with you. You cannot do this alone. And third, create a great product that people outside of your friends and family actually enjoy. Your mom can love your product, but that doesn't mean a customer will buy it. This is not a product for you; it's a product for your customers, so be sure you add value for the customer.
