What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hyde Closet is a menswear styling and rental clothing service. We are a data-driven solution for the challenges in menswear today. Our clients are men who are looking for help transitioning out of the military back to civilian life, single men picking outfits for dates, and men who travel a lot and want to simplify their wardrobe. Our customers are men in every industry who want to make a good first impression.
Tell us about yourself
I’m Marie Gloss, and I’m Hyde’s SVP of Content Strategy. I started as an intern doing simple marketing and business development tasks when Hyde was first starting out. Over time my role grew, and with the rest of my team, I helped build the business into what it is today. Every day I am motivated by our technology and the potential it has for great change in the fashion and retail industries.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Every retail brand, enterprise partner, and client we work with are our greatest accomplishments. As Hyde grows, so does our impact. Our data, our insights, and our service are changing the way retail and apparel make production decisions. Each partner and client who sign with us are moving this impact forward.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the biggest challenges is making others believe in our mission the way we do. Making a great change in an industry set in its ways means we’re met with great resistance. Our clients and our partners’ satisfaction and success stories have always reminded us why we keep pushing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Build a great team. Working with a group of people you like and trust makes everything easier and more effective.
- Maximize efficiency where you can Use technology that can optimize your time and resources.
- Use your network. Word of mouth is a powerful thing, and when resources are limited, sometimes a friend of a friend can make the difference between success and stagnation.
