What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hudson Flower Shop is a full-service florist supplying the St Croix Valley with stunning flowers for all of those special moments of life.
Tell us about yourself
Flowers and floral design is a high-touch industry. It is very satisfying to contribute to special life moments. I was drawn to creating personal designs and making people happy through floral gifts.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I consider my biggest accomplishment to be successfully surviving the first five years of ownership. I grew and challenged myself in ways I had never imagined.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, the hardest part of my business is Human Resources. Finding and keeping good qualified staff is challenging. Once you have good people, you need to train and educate them continuously.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- I have found that a lot of my success in life has come from being in the right place at the right time and grabbing an opportunity. Listen to your gut and believe in yourself. You can do it!
- Be prepared to work hard. They say: "if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life." I disagree. If you do what you love, you will love working hard every day of your life.
- Never stop learning. Over time industry changes, styles change, and technology changes. Keep learning, growing, and staying on top of your industry.
