Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with John Trimble, Founder of Hot Crispy Oil, located in Albany, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We produce, market, and distribute a chili oil condiment. Our customers range from home cooks, restaurants, delis, supermarkets, etc.

Tell us about yourself

I closed my family restaurant of 44 years during covid. In tandem, I was home cooking and experimenting with recipes. The feedback from my warm market connections leads me to launch on a national scale.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Getting a bootstrapped, self-funded start-up off the ground during a pandemic.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Limited time and a business that doesn't sleep. You don't really get to just shut down your computer and go home. It's a 24/7 grind.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Do something you are passionate about. Otherwise, every day will feel like work.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Plan your business for the future. Lay out a roadmap. If you run your business for instant gratification and profit, there is minimal chance for long-term growth. Build a team. Any successful organization is built upon a cohesive team.
