Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Holly Reville, a marketing, social media & branding consultant based in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a marketing and branding consultant with over 20 years of experience helping companies achieve rockstar success! Every business is different and unique, AND I LOVE THAT! I don't believe any one plan will fit all businesses. This is why I spend time getting to know my clients, their businesses, and their marketing & branding needs in order to create the perfect strategy designed especially for the unique needs of their businesses.

Tell us about yourself

Throughout my career, I have worked with powerhouses like Tony Robbins and Windermere Real Estate and luxury product brands, helping them launch and achieve phenomenal growth and improvement in their marketing & branding efforts. What makes me different from your average marketing professional is my amazing, creative ability coupled with my passion for numbers. I have spent years in the personal growth industry. This experience has given me the ability to write brand messaging that speaks to all types of consumers. I also operate off of the concept of CANI, constant and never-ending improvement. This means for every marketing campaign I run; I love to track and measure the results and then ask, "How can we do this even better?" I am definitely not a set-it-and-forget-it kind of marketing professional.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My most rewarding accomplishment is helping other business owners establish their ideal customers, create their unique personal brand and come up with a marketing strategy and materials to get them from where they are to where they want to be. It is always so rewarding to see their vision become a reality. You can check out my portfolio here.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I absolutely love what I do for my clients. Every day is rewarding! If I would have to say my hardest thing would be keeping up with my own marketing and bookkeeping. My clients always come first!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

3 tips I would give to anyone looking to start, run and grow their own business today would be to identify your ideal customer, establish your brand/messaging and come up with a clear and concise marketing strategy.

Your IDEAL customer is your favorite customer, that one you LOVE to work with. It may be one customer you have dealt with or a combination of all the customers you have worked with. You want to know this person inside and out. It is important to identify your ideal customer so you can get hyper-localized in your messaging across all platforms (website, email, social media, etc.) so you can attract the customers you want to attract that can benefit from your unique niche.

A brand is an overall customer experience that distinguishes you from your competitors and makes you stand out from the crowd. You want to create your brand to show your unique market niche, tell your personal story, and attract your ideal customers. It is how you present yourself to the world, it is how you stand out from your competitors, and it is how you build trust and loyalty with your customers/clients. Having a personal brand that truly represents you and what you stand for can make all the difference. In fact, 86% of consumers say that authenticity is a key factor when deciding what brands they like and support. People want honest, down-to-earth brands that truly care. (Stackla).

Lastly, you want to create a clear and concise plan for your marketing strategy. How are you going to reach those ideal clients? In today's competitive marketplace, it is crucial to be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to your marketing. You want to create an all-encompassing plan of action for your company to reach your ideal customers, engage your customers and stay on top of the competition. My typical process when working with clients is to help create a vision of what they want to achieve, develop a plan on how to get them there, spring that plan into action, and track and measure the results.
