What's your business, and who are your customers?
Hollie Davis Art makes original art and programming. My customers are art lovers who want one-of-a-kind original art with historical and cultural significance.
Tell us about yourself
I have been interested in fine art since I was 13. I studied art in college and found community and opportunity by pursuing it post-grad. I am motivated to get people engaged in meaningful dialogue and create spaces to appreciate small business owners like artists. I also am motivated by the power to educate and inform, which art allows me to do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Founding The Connect Residency was a huge accomplishment. It is a program that helps artists get booked, connects them with industry professionals, allows them to network with artists globally, and an in-person exhibit in Logan Square in Chicago. I have also been booked artistically for three years in a row; that was a huge accomplishment as well.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Running out of energy and time is the hardest thing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your research.
- Do the work.
- Prepare for the unpredictable.
