Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cassandra Hill, Owner and Founder of Holistic Living Consulting, located in Osceola, AR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Holistic Living Consulting is a health and wellness company that caters to women, particularly women of color. Our service includes virtual holistic wellness coaching and digital products. Through our affiliate partners, we offer healthy living products to restore a woman's mind, body, and soul.

Tell us about yourself

I founded Holistic Living Consulting in February 2018. As an undergraduate student, I was diagnosed as being anemic; however, I actually had systemic lupus. I went misdiagnosed for over ten years. Healthcare professionals did not take the time to listen to my concerns. When I received the correct diagnosis, doctors recommended chemo drugs and steroids, which came with terrible side effects.

One day I decided I was tired of being sick. After going back to college and taking courses in health and wellness, I developed a regimen that put me in remission. Unfortunately, the experience I had in healthcare settings is far too common. Black women are ranking on the charts in health disparities.

Holistic Living Consulting was birthed to provide practical ways for a woman to naturally manage her health and well-being. As the owner of Holistic Living Consulting, I envision a world where health disparities no longer exist for black women.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I achieved many milestones as a business owner. My wellness story has been covered by CBS, NBC, and FOX. The accomplishment that holds a special place in my heart is graduating from Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women Black in Business program. Black in Business was a highly competitive program with over 2,000 applications received and only 170 Black women accepted into the program. I graduated from the program in July 2022 at the Gaylord Resort in National Harbor, Maryland. Additionally, I made the 2022 Influential African American Business/Corporate Women list by Smart Women Partner.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a business owner, there are countless sacrifices made to ensure success. I gave up a career with a steady income to become a business owner. There were many days I had little to nothing, but I kept pressing forward because I was determined to create a change in the world.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build a team who believes in your vision.
  2. Prioritize your health and well-being because your business can't be successful if you are ill.
  3. Set up your business for success by establishing a business checking account, legal entity, and business credit.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Impacting the lives of the women I am called to serve has been a delight. If you want to support Holistic Living Consulting in creating a world where health disparities no longer exist for black women, donate to our crowdfunding campaign.
