Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Madeline Hagan, Founder of Holistic Home & Health LLC., located in Fort Morgan, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Holistic Home & Health LLC is a Colorado-based holistic wellness business specializing in integrative health and wellness. We offer a variety of complementary healing modalities, including reiki healing, energy medicine/healing, reflexology, health & wellness coaching, stress management coaching, guided meditations, tarot readings, psychic medium sessions, and more. In addition to our services, we handcraft a variety of natural home, personal care, and health products for optimal wellness support.

Our customers are those who are seeking a greater connection with themselves through exploring complementary healing modalities. Oftentimes, our customers have attempted to address health concerns through Western Medicine and haven't been able to find answers or support, and as such, are seeking an alternative form of healing or medicine. We work with each customer to provide customized treatment plans, guidance, and support on their healing journeys.

Tell us about yourself

I first became interested in holistic health and traditional medicine through my own experiences with health ailments. I struggled a lot as a young child with reoccurring and chronic sinus infections, allergies, digestive issues, pain, and fatigue. My body became resistant to antibiotics, and I knew there had to be another route beyond what my doctor was telling me. I began looking into integrated medicine, or whole medicine as it's often called, and incorporating traditional medicinal techniques to find relief and heal myself. Along my journey in studying traditional medicine, I came across a lot of different spiritual and religious beliefs associated with ancient cultures. Through learning about these different beliefs, I became more and more interested in energy medicine and spirituality, which led to me having a greater understanding of myself as well as pursuing education for things like reiki healing. Along this journey, I also became more aware of the various chemicals and toxic components of modern living, which is what inspired me to start creating natural products for everyday use and optimal well-being.

I truly am so passionate about holistic health and incorporate aspects of it every day into my own life. I feel it is my calling to help others along their journeys and provide them with tools and resources to better themselves and the lives of those around them. Seeing the happiness and relief from my clients is one of my biggest motivators - I love being able to help others and make a positive difference.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say that my biggest accomplishment is being able to see the positive changes in my clients and working with them to address their personal concerns. Along that same thought, being able to see my own self-growth and progress has been very moving for me. It means a lot to me that I get the referrals I do for my work and that I am known for the high quality of my work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things for me is learning to prioritize myself as someone who has multiple businesses. Being self-employed is such a beautiful and eye-opening experience; however, it's often harder to make time to rest and relax when I feel like I have a million things to do. I've had to learn to put myself first so that I can be my best self for my clients and businesses.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would first recommend finding a business idea that you will still be passionate about after working 60 to 80-hour weeks :) It's important that you're going to be doing something that you love because the first few years are tough, and you need to have that light in the tunnel on the hard days too.

Next, I'd recommend networking and speaking with professionals in your chosen industry or a complementary industry to learn more about their operations and the actual logistics of running a business. Within this same thought, I'd highly recommend speaking with an advisor or professional who can help you figure out the details of a business plan, make suggestions, etc., and serve as a mentor for you.

Lastly, I would recommend connecting with your local community at in-person or online events. In our modern world, there is so much focus on online marketing, social media, etc., but I often think that our real-life connections are overlooked. Get to know your community, your clients, and their problems so that you can best help them with your business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Always trust your gut, and know that anything is possible with time, dedication, and a dream.
