Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Whitney Cronin, ND, Founder of Holistic Home Health, located in Deforest, WI, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a registered/licensed Naturopathic Doctor. My patients are natural health-minded individuals looking to break away from conventional medicine, address their root cause health issues and restore healing and vitality in their life. They are looking to reduce exposure to harmful toxins in their environment and everyday products, as well as be conscious about EMF exposure and eating nutrient-dense foods.
Tell us about yourself
I started working for a chiropractor as an X-ray tech and office manager in my early 20s. I was exposed to several new to me natural medicine approaches, and it just snowballed from there. Different stages and steps in my life led me to more and more experiences with the world of natural medicine, and eventually, several of my friends ended up as chiropractors too.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The continued success and growth that I'm currently experiencing. Reaching new and larger communities to educate people about my approaches, service, and unique offerings. A few years ago, I also finally opened a one-of-a-kind natural health boutique -- all your natural, organic, local, zero waste, and more for your personal, home, beauty, and baby needs. Again, all born out of my own life journey, education, and use of products.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being self-employed, you get to make your own schedule; however, you also never really get a day off : ) You're your own IT, advertising, social media, website, inventory, bookkeeping, tax prep, billing, scheduling, and more until/unless you are able to hire more help - which usually only comes with time.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Start small and reasonable, don't go into ridiculous debt trying to show up in a big way. Be very specific about what it is you are offering and why -- what makes you different from everyone else. The more genuine you are, the more that comes through in your business, and that resonate will people in a way that scammy adverting and programs never do. Plan, plan, and plan - be organized and pay attention to details; it's all on you!
