Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Thomas Chin, Founder of Highlife by Tom, located in Ridgefield, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Highlife by Tom is a One-of-a-kind personal training studio that offers clients a complete fitness experience. We combine strength and cardio training, nutrition coaching, and lifestyle accountability to create a fully serviced fitness session!

Tell us about yourself

I got into fitness so I could look and feel better about myself, and through fitness, I've been blessed to see the same happen for so many others. Fitness is a gateway to a better life, and I'm driven to help people cross that bridge and embrace fitness!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I opened my business on a whim! I didn't have a business plan, loan, or any idea on what to do! I went into my own pocket and googled along the way as I created my business. Since then, 1.5 years have flown by!!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing you. You become your business, and separating yourself and returning to YOU (as a person) is so so hard. You are always working.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just do it! Being scared will stop an amazing idea from happening! Taking a leap of faith is the first step to creating anything!
  2. Know your finances! Everything comes down to money, and you are going to spend a lot and not make much. Be aware of your cash, savings, debt, etc., and plan accordingly!
  3. Hire an accountant!! It's the best thing I've ever done! Get someone on your side who can see your money and your business's money. You need another set of eyes and ears.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Owning and operating a small business has been the most fun, challenging, stressful, and rewarding time thus far. It's every emotion mixed into the freedom to do it all or take a day off. You control your life, and it really tests you for who you are.

Where can people find you and your business?
