Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jason Kozma, Founder of High Performance Personal Training, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

High Performance Personal Training is a boutique fitness and body transformation company in Los Angeles with a 360-approach to fitness. We provide our clients not only with physical fitness training but also with nutritional plans, motivational techniques, and body sculpting. We work with clients of all ages and fitness levels who want to make a positive change in their health and appearance. We also inspire people and help push them to overcome challenges and become strong and beautiful.

Tell us about yourself

I started my Personal Training business in 1995 and, in 1997, launched the first version of my website, which is now offering the first online personal training in the U.S. Fitness is my passion, and when I saw how being fit changed my life, I knew I wanted to help others create the bodies they’ve always dreamed of. I never imagined myself wearing a suit and going to an office. I have always wanted to make my career out of my passion, which is body transformation, nutrition, weight training, and bodybuilding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, I’d say the fact that I can help support these great trainers working with me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I’ve got to say staying on top of the technology and trends!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Love what you do.
  2. Let people know about it.
  3. Keep your overhead as low as possible!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I’ve been doing this for myself for 36 years and professionally for 25 years. I create more results, faster results, and more long-lasting results because I know more and I care more than anyone else. I probably care about my client’s results more than they do. I provide my clients with a very high level of support. I text and email my clients to make sure they are staying on track; I monitor their nutritional and physical progress by going over their weekly food diaries and assessing their fitness levels. I send them a weekly newsletter and also publish articles on my blog that highlight issues many faces during training. I also create new goals periodically and keep the workouts fresh.

I pride myself on providing not just fast visual results but also dramatic increases in strength and health. I successfully work with people of all fitness levels, from beginners to competitive bodybuilders.
