Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hedi Shah, founder of Hedi Shah Company, located in Manchester, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help ambitious and spirited individuals to rise above barriers to their strongest version through movement, breath, and mindfulness.

I have the most transformative journeys with my clients. Clients who have dealt with setbacks, feeling stuck, in pain, and frustrated in their movement and health journey because they have believed their body hinders them and couldn't seem to overcome it, no matter how much they tried.

Through our work together, clients begin to connect and trust their bodies as their allies so they can experience greater joy, liberation, and confidence in their bodies as they pursue their passions and goals in life.

Tell us about yourself

If six years ago you told me I'd be doing what I'm doing today, I wouldn't believe you. I was committed to making a living out of my urban planning and design career. Movement work was supposed to remain a hobby (forever). Then, in 2016, life began crumbling, and everything I identified with felt unfit, like a bunch of clothes you wore for so long but never noticed they didn't fit you properly. As if you were so busy admiring the fabric that you didn't get a chance to check yourself in the mirror (Crazy, right?).

That was the beginning of my journey! Starting my business was more like an awakening that I needed to get to know myself. And it continues...
As a first-generation immigrant, a woman of colour, a former people pleaser, and a perfectionist, the entrepreneurial journey has been eye-opening, to say the least.

Today, I stand for embodied liberation and sovereignty. And I am committed to helping as many people as possible to rise in their power through bodywork. And this motivates me more than anything in life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my client rise in their power through bodywork and witness how that transforms the way they show up in their lives and impact their world.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning to dance with the ebbs and flows of entrepreneurship. If the business is busy, go for it. If it's slow, enjoy it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't let your worth be defined by how your business is doing, you are worthy no matter what.
  2. You don't have to do this. You get to do this! So design it exactly how you truly desire it. Otherwise, why don't you get a job :)
  3. You can build a very successful business without social media. Don't forget to make genuine connections.
