Stop Managing & Start Healing -Heather Woodruff Nutrition

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Heather Woodruff, founder of Heather Woodruff Nutrition, located in Port Moody, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women to heal their stubbornly inflamed bellies (finally!) with traditional foods so they can live their lives unrestrained and full of purpose.

Tell us about yourself

Over a decade ago, I was painfully bloated and running to the bathroom 8+ times a day. Any test from my medical doctor that was done kept coming back normal, and the doctor finally shrugged and said, 'it must be IBS,' then sent me on my way as there was nothing more he was trained to do. So I made a choice this was not going to be mine forever. I got the help I needed and gave my body exactly what it needed to heal.

This empowerment led me to get a first-class honors diploma in Applied Holistic Nutrition and certification in GAPS (Gut and Phycology Syndrome Nutritional Protocol). But my healing journey was a long one (years!), so now I love giving my clients a healing protocol I know works in a fraction of the time it took me.

For several years I worked at a government-funded Supportive Cancer Care Centre, working with some of the most digestively compromised people due to illness and treatment. This allowed me to truly understand the gut and realize its amazing capacity to heal when strongly supported, even in the most inflamed circumstances.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Perfecting my 12-week Sacred Gut Healing program and watching it work over and over and over again! Being known as the 'Digestion Guru' in my community is also pretty darn cool.

Getting emails like this on a frequent basis also brings tears to my eyes;
'I'm currently sitting in a plane waiting for takeoff, and I haven't felt this good in years. I find myself overcome and teary-eyed, with heartfelt gratitude, thank you.'

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Ensuring my business stays aligned to my soul's purpose. It's easy to get caught up in the 'noise' of what everyone else is doing in the online business world. But if I keep leaning into what lights me up, I always seem to see growth in my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Really dive into your big why for starting this business (I love Rha Goddess's book 'The Calling'). Write it down and post it in your workspace to look at every single day.
  2. Figure out who your business will serve and interview a lot of them (at least 20) so you know them deeply.
  3. Take a business class from someone whose business style resonates. Even today, 8+ years in, I invest in business training every year. I am currently a member of Kate Northrup's Origin Membership.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

When I'm not saving the world one bloated belly at a time, you can find me perusing the farmer's market, shaking my butt off at a Kundalini yoga class, surfing some north pacific waves, or simply puttering in the kitchen (usually in company with my brilliant husband and spunky little girl.)
