What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is an artisan bakery. Our customers are individuals living in the upstate NY area.
Tell us about yourself
After graduating from college, becoming a neuromuscular therapist, and running my own holistic center for ten years, I followed my vision to create a sustainable home, organic farm, and now an artisan bakery! My vision has been driven by my desire to live ecologically, to care for the earth and others by growing and baking the healthiest food possible! And I am not finished yet, as we are "rewilding" parts of our farm for wildlife, birds, bees, and butterflies and hope to create glamping sites on our farm so others can come to see and learn about what we do, all while taking in the beauty and sacredness of this land!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We were one of the first community-supported agriculture organic vegetable farmers and artisan bakeries using organic New York State grains and flours and baking long, cool, naturally fermented sourdough breads in our area! We regularly hear from our customers this is the very best bread they have ever tasted and that it is the bread they CAN eat because of the sourdough fermentation process and organic flour.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Not enough downtime or taking vacations and enough time off.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find what you are passionate about and follow your bliss.
- Break your vision down into a realistic progression of steps so you can see your progress no matter how small.
- Celebrate your accomplishments and successes, and don't give up on your dream.
