Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Misha Moran, Founder of Heart Therapeutics, located in Noosa, QLD, Australia.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Heart Therapeutics is a boutique apothecary located in Noosa, Australia. I'm a bachelor's degree qualified Naturopath, chef, passionate self-care advocate, and a strong ambassador for sustainability.
In a time when health and self-care are so incredibly vital, I created Heart Therapeutics to assist people on their journey to optimum health and well-being. Our customers are people who wholeheartedly embrace self-care and enjoy these rituals, who are on their own journey to better health and wellness, who love being a part of a heart-driven community, and, of course, who love a good cup of tea!
Tell us about yourself
My business is a combination of my life's work— education, experience, passion, motherhood, travel, breakdowns... everything I experienced in my life led to the epiphany in my kitchen where I realised this was my next journey. It all came down to one cup of herbal tea I had blended in my kitchen for a friend, who had such an incredible response to my offering. She made me realise I had something special.
My products, mainly my herbal teas, are considered examples of my deep love of herbal medicine; the flavours represent my skill as a chef, and the ritual it invites, embraces healing and the self-care journey.
My motivation each day is to continue to spread the joy of my products and keep people connecting with themselves, each other, and the earth. This is the foundation of my business and is my why for keeping on going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
There are many career and business highlights, but I have to say the most incredible accomplishment is when I get a customer who reached out with an incredible story of how one of my blends touched their heart and made a difference in their life. Whether it was someone reaching out who had finally achieved incredible sleep and reduced anxiety or let me know that one of my blends is their go-to everyday self-care ritual, this is honestly the biggest accomplishment ever.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Growth, both personally and in business. When you have big goals and you have to navigate growth, it can be super uncomfortable.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with the right people. Networks, subcontractors, staff, friends, and family; keep the right people around you.
- Rest. This is vital. Creating a sustainable business relies on you being fit and strong, not burnt out.
- Keep going! It's hard but so rewarding. If you are really passionate about what you are doing, you will find a way to make it work even through the hardest times.
