Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Elizabeth Rodgers, Founder of Healthy Transformations with Heart, LLC., located in Westlake, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

You know how it seems like everyone is living with at least one health issue or is stuck living in less-than-optimal health, but doctors are more interested in managing symptoms than actually healing the problem? I'm a chronic health expert. I help women identify the root causes of their health issues and create a roadmap to healing from the inside out, so they can finally look and feel their best at any age. The people I serve are high-achieving women who want to take personal responsibility for creating optimal health and well-being - mind, body, and spirit.

Tell us about yourself

After a near-death experience, I battled physical, mental, and chronic emotional illness for over a decade. I was stuck on my healing journey for so many years while I went from doctor to doctor, searching for answers I had never found. All I wanted was to heal and be healthy – but all I got were suggestions for how to manage my symptoms. I felt like no one was listening or understanding. I felt lost in the dark, wondering if I'd ever find a light. Then I set myself free and became the light - the practitioner who makes roadmaps to heal and creates pathways to optimal health - and I healed myself from the inside out. I went from being exhausted and controlled by my health issues to thriving and living a life that's powerful, healthy, and free. Since then, I've helped dozens of women do the same in my private practice.

I worked inside the mainstream healthcare system for years – from research to practice – and I saw what's broken. Healing is an equation, and there are two sides to it – physical and non-physical. It's simple physics. But no one was bridging the gap. Everyone was focusing on one side of the equation – physical health. Approaching your health and healing from a one-sided perspective is never going to get you to optimal health and well-being. I knew this was only going to keep people stuck in a vicious cycle of feeling unwell. So I left the broken system to create something different - to provide people with a pathway to healing, not merely treat symptoms. I left to be the bridge between physical and non-physical health for people who want to take personal responsibility for creating optimal health and well-being. Since I've worked outside the system in my private practice, I've witnessed incredible transformation – mind, body, and spirit – for my clients.

What motivates me each day to do what I do is getting to witness the people I help discover their own power and create the health and life of their dreams - I'm here to serve, and this work is my purpose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is being an upcoming TEDx speaker and being an in-demand expert who is pioneering a new approach to health and healing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is all of the external noise. There are countless business coaches and service providers who want to convince you that THEY know the secret to being successful. If you follow THEIR plan and the way they do things, you'll be rolling in bathtubs of money and clients. The truth is - it's all BS and smoke and mirrors. There are some good coaches and mentors out there, and it's great to get support. But don't outsource your genius and uniqueness to someone else. You can be a successful business owner by doing it YOUR own way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You can only help someone go as far as you've gone yourself - reflect on that.
  2. To start, grow, and run a business successfully and get the outcomes you want, you need to BE the person who will be able to do the things you need to do to have the outcomes you desire. If you're standing in your own way by staying attached to old stories, habits, or anything that doesn't serve you - you'll struggle to get what you want.
  3. Be intentional, have a clear and concise core message you can communicate with confidence, and have self-integrity. These things will take you far.
