Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health supplements but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Drew Baird, Owner of Healthy PCOS, located in Lake Cathie, NSW, Australia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a supplement company where we specialise in health supplements for PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). We provide high-quality, evidence-backed vitamins to help women with PCOS naturally manage their condition.

Tell us about yourself

I started working in PCOS when I was a personal trainer in 2014. I initially found PCOS to be intriguing as it definitely presents unique challenges in terms of trying to lose weight. From there, the number of clients with PCOS I was working one-on-one with grew. A few years later, in late 2018, I launched my first supplement, Balance, which is a daily multivitamin. From there, we've grown to over 20 products and are about to open our third fulfilment warehouse (Australia, the UK, and now the USA). Personally, I always wanted to believe what I was doing actually meant something; I was looking for a purpose in life. I believe helping those with PCOS to take control of their condition is that purpose.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating content and products that truly make a positive difference in people's lives.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The continual challenge of facing new obstacles that you've never faced before and having to solve them pretty much on your own. Also, as the business grows, having to become a more skilled business owner. The skills that got my business to this point will not be the skills required to get my business to the next milestone. So, always having to up-skill is challenging as well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a truly amazing product that helps your customers achieve the goal they desire.
  2. Master the skill of marketing your product to get it in front of as many people as you can.
  3. Play the long game.
