Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenn Jodouin, Founder of Healthy Living With Jenn J, located in Sturgeon Falls, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help empower women living with uncomfortable and debilitating hormonal symptoms like painful periods, mood swings, PMS, weight issues, and low energy to reclaim their lives and put their period problems to rest. Many of my clients are parents and struggle to implement healthy habits with their families.

My practice is built on the umbrella approach of helping women take care of themselves while making micro-commitments with the family to move in a more positive and healthy direction together!

My holistic approach encompasses non-dieting-based nutrition and lifestyle coaching, education, resources, masterclasses, meal plans, and supplements. I live by the motto that healthy living all starts with one bite at a time! Let's make each bite count!

Tell us about yourself

I am an Advanced Holistic Nutritionist with training in seven different areas of nutrition. "One Bite at a Time" isn't just my coaching motto. It's how I've been able to overcome crippling health and hormone challenges that impacted the quality of my life. Navigating the healthcare system was a difficult journey that motivated me to look for answers, solutions, and preventative options to my problems.

My mission is to save others from frustration and pain by shining a light on the simplicity and healing properties of nutrition and lifestyle. I also bring with me a bachelor's degree in Psychology that focuses heavily on research, education, and human development through all life stages. This has armed me with a solid understanding of our growth, emotional needs, mental needs, nutritional needs, and the connection they all have together!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have loved the joy and pride that my clients have experienced when they realize the power that they have in their own health and the results of their goals! It's so liberating to have helped women have alternative and holistic options for their hormonal problems.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I'd say one of the hardest but also the most fun things that come with being a business owner is the learning curves of creating your business, services, and systems, and working all of that into your life to avoid burnout and still be able to enjoy the things in life that motivated you to start a business to begin with (no boss, time freedom, etc.).

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you're looking to start a business, I always recommend these three things: Make a business plan—be VERY detailed.
  2. Join a network of other business owners and make an effort to attend meetings regularly - you'll learn a lot and have the opportunity to get guidance and mentorship and be with other like-minded individuals.
  3. Schedule some time for yourself! Your business is built on and relies on your health and wellness. Prioritize it!
