Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in floristry, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with a florist, Alison Brown, owner of Feeling Bouquet in Northern California, USA.

Tell us about yourself and your journey to where you are today...

Welcome to Feeling Bouquet, a floral design company specializing in fresh & dried hand-tied bouquets and unique event florals in Northern California. Influenced by the natural world and the beauty of flowers, my goal is to bring joy to everyone I encounter with local blooms.

What motivates you each day?

My flower journey started after helping a friend with her wedding flowers. I fell in love with floral arranging. After a trying year in 2020, working as a behavioral therapist for children on the Autism spectrum, flowers helped channel my creative energy and became a healing practice for me. I founded Feeling Bouquet to one day combine the use of flowers in therapy with children with ASD.

To what would you attribute your entrepreneurial success?

My most significant accomplishments as a business owner have been collaborating/freelancing with other florists in the Bay Area to help make people's wedding dreams come to life! Whether it's a sizeable hanging flower installation or a small boutonniere, I love being a part of the couple's special day.

What is the hardest thing that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is balancing working my day job and learning how to run a small business. I have so much respect for other small business owners balancing their business and other occupations.

What are the top 3 tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get to know your customers and carve out your niche.
  2. Network as much as possible with your community.
  3. Love what you do, and your passion will resonate with people!
