What's your business, and who are your customers?
We run the UK's leading dating coaching company. Our diverse client base ranges across the UK and North America, where we provide unique training solutions to people who want to build confidence in dating and meet people in real life. This is supported by our e-commerce platforms which offer membership clubs and home study courses to online learners.
Tell us about yourself
I am a brand ambassador for Match.com and Neutrogena and have over 1.5 million views on TED talk. My YouTube channel has 100,000 subscribers, and she has appeared on The Apprentice, Celebs Go Dating, 4Music, and Sky News as a dating expert.
Whether it's "one day my Prince will come" or "negging," there's a lot of dubious dating advice out there: We see dating as a form of self-development that should empower the individual and help to bring together.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I was lucky enough to have a successful TEDx talk and write two published books ("The Last First Date," by Harper Collins, and "Do This, Not That: Dating" by Simon & Schuster). However, these aren't as cool as the wins we see our clients making in their dating lives.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
You have to deal with uncertainty. (This is also true for dating.)
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
You can have the perfect plan, but things don't always go to plan, so stay agile. Think about your core messaging and stay true to your brand. As much as it's great to have a "hit" product or do a cool media venture, most small businesses are built on the day-to-day grind, processes, and innovation, not scoring one big win.
