Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hayleigh Maloney, Founder of Buffalo Cactus Boutique, located in Edgewood, NM, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Buffalo Cactus Boutique is a western-style boutique for all people of the family, including those fur babies. We have most people in the Western industry who visit our boutique, but we welcome all faces of the world! Our items can be styled in so many ways.

Tell us about yourself

I am a mom to 2 little boys, wife to my wonderful husband, a full-time employee at a local hospital, and a full-time pre-med student. I started this business with a love for fashion and an anticipation of a loss of income with the start of medical school. I figured I could build my business to help support my family and enjoy every moment of it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is just overcoming the hurdles that can come with a small business in today's world. I absolutely love all of my customers and hope I can give them the best experience at my shop.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One extremely difficult thing that comes with being a business owner is overcoming the assumption that all small businesses online are scams. It is so unfortunate that our world has made it so easy for people to get scammed. Small business owners have been given such a bad name for the mistakes and wrong-doings of those few scamming businesses. I hope all of my customers can take my open communication and honestly that we are a hard-working, small business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never give up. There will be rude people; there will be hard days. KEEP GOING.
  2. Know all of the logistics that come with having a small business before opening up your shop.
  3. Love your people. Your customers are your biggest fans; treat them with respect.
