Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jonathan Drew, Medical Director & Founder of HAVN Healing Center, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an integrative health and wellness center focusing on Ketamine treatments for mental health. We serve the greater Seattle area and have had patients come from as far as the San Juans for treatment. Our customers include those struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, loss of purpose, or connection who are looking to take a different approach to their healing journey.

Tell us about yourself

I am trained as an Emergency Physician. For years I have worked in this fashion, taking care of people struggling with crises of all sorts. As I was going through my own healing journey, I was looking for a way to do more than put on a bandaid for these people. I saw the ways the fiat medical system subtly disempowered patients and led them to distrust themselves. Following a powerful psychedelic experience of my own, the idea germinated to create a place where we could empower people to take the reins of their own healing. It has been such a privilege and inspiration to witness the small and large steps that our patients are taking toward their own wellness.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

This January marks the 1 year anniversary of our first treatment. Starting and running this clinic has been such a learning experience in many aspects of my life. Not only starting but allowing it to grow and change and become successful fills me with pride and so much gratitude.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Self-care and work-life balance take on a whole new meaning once you are working for yourself. Learning how to step away from work and do the things that you need to do to sustain your physical and mental well-being. These have been my biggest challenges in running this business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take care of yourself. It can be tempting to overextend yourself to get what you feel you need to get done. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
  2. Do what brings you joy. You will work much more efficiently, and it will be much more sustainable if you are doing the things that fill your cup
  3. Meditate--I can't recommend this highly enough. I am much more focused, calm, and resourced when I cultivate a regular meditation practice.
