Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brynn Boyd, Founder of Haven Hair Co., located in Nashville, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Haven Hair Co is a hair salon made up of a team of independent hairstylists located in the nations. We specialize in lived in color, haircuts, and extensions. Our specialty is providing clients with their dream luxury hair in a laid-back and welcoming environment.

Tell us about yourself

I began my journey in the beauty industry back in 2013 when I moved to Nashville to start cosmetology school. I immediately knew I had made the right decision and have always loved working as a hairstylist. I always felt a calling to mentor and counsel women. Shortly into my career, I realized how full circle this industry was for me. I absolutely love the relationships that I have built with my clients, and I love being able to pour into them and be a listening ear.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am most proud of the team of stylists that I have the privilege of working alongside. In 2021 I made a big decision to build out a bigger salon and change locations. This was definitely a leap for me because not only would our space be twice the size, but I would have to hire twice as many stylists. I could never have dreamt up the team that we have today. I am so inspired to work alongside a team of beautiful, talented, and kind-hearted stylists.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner for me has definitely been balancing work life as a mom. I am always guilty of overextending myself and trying to give each area of my life 200% of my energy. I am constantly learning through trial and error how to balance it all and definitely have come to realize the importance of asking for help!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your dream and vision for your business and hold true to it. Always come back to what inspired you initially and hold to it!
  2. Dream big! Don't be afraid to set big goals. Also, set little goals that can be stepping stones to the big ones.
  3. Hire out and ask for help! I have learned the hard way that you just can't do it all yourself. Find the aspects of your business that you are great at, and hire out for the areas in which you need assistance.
